| The second annual Asia Optical
Fiber Communication & Optoelectronic Exposition & Conference (AOE)
took place at the Shanghai Expo Convention Center in Shanghai, China
over a very exciting four days in October of 2006.
One hundred and seventy-five companies displayed their products at
this year’s show, an increase of almost 50% over last year’s
successful inaugural show. Attending the exhibition were more than
3000 registered visitors from China and 28 other countries. Some of
the many international firms that participated included Corning
Incorporated, Avanex Corporation, Agilent Technologies and Fiberxon.
Participation in the peer-reviewed technical talks also increased
over last year’s conference, by more than 21%, with ninety-seven
presentations. These included plenary addresses, panel discussions,
workshops and poster sessions (all held in English).
Presiding over the AOE 2006 Conference were Prof.Hans-Joachim
Grallert (general chair for Europe), Dr. Jacek Chrostowski (general
chair for the US and Canada), and Dr. Mou-Tion Lee (general chair
for Asia).
We were pleased to welcome two new sponsors in 2006. The Optical
Society of America (OSA) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers/Laser & Electro-Optics Society(IEEE/LEOS).
