The Asia Communications and Photonics Conference and Exhibition (ACP) 2009 took place from 2-6 November in Shanghai.

ACP is the result of a merger of the Asia Optical Fiber Communication & Optoelectronic Exposition & Conference (AOE) and Asia-Pacific Optical Communications (APOC). This combined event creates Asia's premier Pacific Rim conference and exhibition for photonics technologies, including optical communications, biophotonics, displays, illumination and applications in energy.

The five technical societies that sponsor APOC and AOE (IEEE Photonics Society, OSA, SPIE, Chinese Optical Society and Chinese Institute of Communications) joined together to co-sponsor the ACP 2009 conference.

The Local Organizing Committee (Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fudan University, Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, and Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell) were responsible for local organization of the technical conference. Wen Global Solutions again managed the exposition.

One hundred  fifty companies exhibited at ACP 2009 to show their latest products and technologies, at a larger scale than past years. The exhibition attracted thousands of domestic Chinese and international attendees; more than 98% were professional visitors. Attendees come from every sector of the industry, with a majority from R&D and procurement. International participation increased again this year, with representatives from the United States, Europe, Japan, Korea, Israel and Russia. Many exhibitors successfully connected with new customers and received new orders at ACP 2009. The ACP Exhibition remains central in the optical communication and optoelectronic industry in Asia, truly the place “where science and industry merge.” International experts and buyers will continue to gather at ACP and foster industrial development through technical communication and business cooperation.

Over 700 technical conference registrants and presentations made the ACP 2009 technical program a resounding success. They came from well-known companies, universities and research institutes from around the world. They shared their latest achievements and thoughts in science, technology and innovation, and provided valuable guidance on future development and technology advancement of the industry.
